In computational tasks, like in the popular SuperPi benchmark, the Sempron 3400+ performs quite satisfactorily. When overclocked to 2.6GHz, it even leaves the Athlon 64 3800+ behind, thanks to the high clock rate. The results of Intel’s value processor are very humble.

The ScienceMark 2.0 benchmark which solves molecular dynamics tasks using the 64-bit capabilities of the x86-64 architecture produces roughly the same picture. Note that the Sempron 3400+ is faster in this test than both modifications of the Athlon 64 3000+ (for Socket 754 and Socket 939 systems) at the default clock rate and is much faster than the Athlon 64 3800+ at 2.6GHz frequency.

Yet another test from the same benchmark gives you a completely different picture: the Celeron D 351, a processor with Intel’s NetBurst architecture, shows its best and beats all its competitors in the overclocked mode.
