Asus P5K Specification

Returning to our discussion of the Asus P5K mainboard we would like to sum up the main differences between the new Intel P35 Express chipset and the well-known Intel P965 Express chipset:

  1. Intel P35 Express officially supports CPUs with 1333MHz bus, but mainboards on P965 will also be able to work with these processors;
  2. Intel P35 Express will support new 45nm processors, but since these CPUs are still at least six months down the road, this is not a significant advantage at this time;
  3. Intel P35 Express supports DDR3 SDRAM, but for the reason described in #2 it is also not very interesting at this time;
  4. Intel P35 Express supports 12 USB ports against 8 USB ports by P965, but most users feel that 8 ports is actually more than enough;
  5. Intel P35 Express features an integrated network controller, but it will hardly let us exceed the speed of a 10Mbit or 100Mbit network.

In other words, these are good useful changes, but there is nothing serious enough that could push you to give up the “old” P965 based mainboard.

For your convenience here is a summary of all Asus P5K specifications:
