More information concerning announcement of AMD Athlon XP 3200+ and 3000+ processors with 400MHz PSB emerged at News.com web-site. Their sources confirmed X-bit labs’ report about product launch in May and even said that AMD will roll out its new chips in the first half of the month.
As we said earlier, the forthcoming Athlon XP microprocessors with 3200+ and 3000+ model numbers will run at 2200MHz and 2100MHz respectively and will operate on 1.65V core-voltage. OPN codes for the newcomers are AXDA3000DKV4E and AXDA3200DKV4E. Both will utilise 400MHz EV-6 PSB and boast with 512KB of L2 cache.
AMD reportedly expects its partners to adopt the new CPUs, so, it is reasonable to expect not only NVIDIA, SiS and maybe VIA Technologies to formally announce their new chipsets with 400MHz bus support, but also mainboard makers to begin selling appropriate mainboards to customers and end-users.
At the moment it is impossible to tell whether the Athlon XP 3200+ or the Pentium 4 3.20GHz CPU, also set to come in May or June, will be the fastest desktop chip.
