Apparently, tier-one personal computer companies of the world either do not mention Intel’s recently announced Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processors on their web-sites, or offer to ship the PCs powered by the fastest Pentium 4 CPU so far at a later date.

The Inquirer has mentioned it right over here that Dell delays the shipments of Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor based systems till the 26^th of October. Gateway, HP and IBM even do not list the chip on their web-sites, it transpires. In fact, the only two companies ready to ship the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor powered computers are Voodoo PC and Alienware – well-known manufacturers of systems for gamers and enthusiasts.

Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor with 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus, 512KB of L2 and 2MB of L3 cache is Intel’s fastest microprocessor for desktop computers up to date. It is quoted at $925 in 1000 units quantities.

Dell is among Intel’s main customers and offers only Intel-based systems. The company often receives the first batches of Intel’s CPU and core-logic products so to be in a position to ship them on the day of the official announcement. The history knows very few examples when Dell was unable to ship Intel’s chips on time. Primarily this happened when Intel was not ready to ship the microprocessors it needed to regain performance crown from other solutions already available in the market at that time. For instance, such situation happened in 1999 after the release of AMD’s original Athlon processors.
