As we read over at The Inquirer, VIA decided to postpone the launching of its new Socket A chipset aka KT400. The new chipset has initially been scheduled for Q2 2002 and was supposed to support DDR400/DDR333 memory and AGP 8x interface and feature 8x V-Link bus between the chipset bridges with 533MB/sec bandwidth. The VT8235 South Bridge boasts ATA/133 and USB 2.0 support.

However, VIA made up its mind to avoid confusion in the market where its previous products, such as KT266A and KT333 are pretty strong now, that is why they postponed the launching of their new KT400 chipset until Q3 or even Q4 2002. Nevertheless, VIA KT400 based mainboard samples are already available for all mainboard makers willing to get to know this core logic better.

The delay of the KT400 launching date is a pretty logical move, I should say. If the chipset had been launched now, its features would have remained uninvolved. DDR400 memory, like AGP 8x graphics products aren’t available in the market yet. That is why VIA KT333 can cope with the role of a high-performance solution for Athlon XP CPUs pretty well.
