As we read over here, some mainboard manufacturers report that Intel has just started shipping its cheaper i845GL version aka i845GL Lite or (i845GLL), which we have already told you about here. At the same time we found out that the company managed to reduce this chipset cost not by adding older ICH2 chip (it is impossible because of architectural differences between ICH2 and ICH4), but by means of disabling the USB 2.0 support in ICH4.

This way, i845GLL chipset is a combination of the standard MCH North Bridge borrowed from i845GL (the same as i845G but without the external AGP graphics support) and "lite" version of the ICH4 South Bridge, differing from the old ICH2 only by the AC’97 sound codec.

Well, as for the price of the new i845GLL, the large mainboard makers will be able to get it for the price below $25 per piece, which is about $3-$5 cheaper than the original i845GL costs.
