TYAN announced the first ever dual Intel Xeon supporting mainboard in ATX form-factor. The Tiger i7500 mainboard provides all the capabilities and features necessary to build an entry-level server based on two Xeon DP CPUs with the Hyper-Threading support.

Here are the brief specifications of the novelty:

  • Supports dual Socket 603 Xeon DP processors with 400MHz Quad Pumped Bus;
  • Can take advantage of the CPUs with the Hyper-Threading technology enabled;
  • Intel E7500 MCH +ICH3 +P64H2 (2 PCI-X slots) + FWH;
  • 4 DIMM slots for up to 8GB of registered PC1600 DDR SDRAM memory;
  • 1 PCI, 2 PCI-X slots;
  • ATI RAGE XL graphics controller;
  • 2-channel ATA-100/66/33 integrated controller;
  • 4 USB 1.1 ports;
  • 10/100/1000Mbit/s Ethernet adapter (82545EM Gigabit Ethernet, optional) and Fast Ethernet;
  • System monitoring, system and server management, remote management of IPMI functions through our optional SMDC (Server Management Daughter Card) and other specific functions are supported;
  • Compatible with both ATX12V and EPS12V power supplies;
  • ATX Form-Factor.
Of course, it is not the most powerful or feature-rich server platform you have ever seen, but it is the first mainboard for dual Xeon processors with ATX form-factor. The Tiger i7500 is currently sampling, and will reach volume production in October 2002. Nothing is said about the price, but it should be comparatively low.
