We have already told you that because NVIDIA nForce2 SPP and nForce2 IGP are too expensive for cost-effective systems, the company plans to unveil single-channel core-logic to address the market of lower-end solutions (see March 19, 2003 news-story). Today we learnt some more information about the newcomer that will succeed NVIDIA nForce220. 

We learnt from our sources that NVIDIA will soon roll out its nForce2 400 core-logic without integrated graphics core and dual-channel memory controller. Despite of earlier expectations, nForce2 400 will inherit 400MHz PSB and PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory support from both nForce2 and nForce2 400 Ultra, hence, its performance will be comparable to VIA’s single-channel offerings.

Note that NVIDIA will be offering two nForce2 400 chipsets this Spring and Summer: nForce2 400 Ultra with dual-channel memory support and nForce2 400 with only single-channel memory controller.

Currently there is no information about integrated version of this inexpensive product, but expect nForce2 400 to support such trendy features like USB 2.0 and AGP 8x for sure. No precise idea about FireWire as well as Serial ATA-150 support by the nForce2 400, however, NVIDIA is likely to let mainboard makers to decide about I/O features, just like VIA Technologies does with its KT400A core-logic.

Expect nForce2 400 and nForce400 Ultra to be formally announced very soon.
