Silicon Integrated Systems reported its sales results for April this week. Judging by the fact that its arch-rival VIA Technologies reported sequential decline in sales and also by SiS’ lower month-on-month sales I think that April was a tough month for chipset designers both because of seasonally weak demand for logic components as well as because of Intel starting to ramp up i865-series production and sales.
SiS’ revenue for April 2003 was $44 million based on the company's preliminary estimate. This is a 26% increase over April 2002, and a decrease of 8% over March 2003. The 2003 year-to-date revenue is estimated at $184 million, a 34% increase over the same period a year ago. Last year SiS’ sales also declined roughly 5.4% from March to April.
At this time SiS does not publish more precise financial results and does not indicate whether its operations are profitable or not. SiS’ year-on-year revenue growth is definitely very positive for the company, however, it will face fierce competition from VIA Technologies later this year what may eventually make its gross margins to decline.
