VIA Technologies today reported its sales results for May. Despite of relatively positive month and settlement with Intel, the company had to announce declines in its revenues for the described period. The company did not issue any comments in regards the reason of heavy decrease in sales.

VIA Technologies’ May sales were $32.10 million, a decline of 35.7% over April’s $49.9 million. That is also 34.96% lower compared to sales results last year. The company’s year-to-date revenue is $246.819 million, a 22.82% decrease compared to the same figure last year. No information about profits or gross margins was issued.

I believe that the main drivers of VIA’s sales downwards are Intel and NVIDIA, who fiercely fight Socket 478 and Socket A market shares respectively from VIA Technologies. SiS is also a very aggressive competitor at this time and its recent success impacts VIA’s sales negatively. The company does not explain the reasons of its poor financial performance.
