According to various market reports, Intel will soon adjust its chipset family to follow the general market trends. DigiTimes, indicated today that the semiconductor giant will soon release its i865GV and i848P chipsets for price-conscious market.

Intel’s 848P is also known as the so-called i865PL and will support single-channel PC3200 memory with 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus. Unlike the brand-name suggest, the core-logic will be based on i865 “Springdale” architecture and will have hardly anything to do with the i845-series. For the very low-cost personal computers Intel will introduce i865GV core-logic without external AGP 8x, but still featuring 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus.

According to the report, the i848P will be priced at $31, only $1 below the 865P’s price of $32. The i865GV will cost mainboard manufacturers $34 per unit, well below the $40 price tag for the i865G.

The introduction of value chipsets with support for 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus means that Intel is about to increase the share of Pentium 4 microprocessors with 800MHz PSB in its shipments. Since it is not known whether the newcomers will support PC2700 memory when operating at 800MHz QPB or will require PC3200 DDR SDRAM, I cannot make any conclusions in regards influence of new core-logic products from Intel on memory market.

First products based on the new chipsets will be available next month.
