Silicon Integrates Systems, the number three chipset company in the world and the second core-logic company in Taiwan, announced its sales results for July. Even though the company continues to improve its sales, it appears that SiS did not beat VIA in terms of revenue as sales of the latter are substantially higher.

SiS’ monthly revenue for July is $35.1 million based on the company’s preliminary estimate. This is a 9% increase over July 2002, and a increase of 10% over June 2003. The 2003 year-to-date revenue is estimated at $286.9 million, a 25% increase over the same period a year ago. VIA’s sales for July are 27.1% higher compared to SiS’ and achieved $48.15 million.

Since SiS continues to improve its sales, there is almost nothing to worry about this company. However, given that its main rival – VIA Technologies – manages to fight back its positions and sell its chipsets to a lot of mainboard makers around, SiS definitely has to concentrate on sustaining its current market share.

I expect sales in August for both VIA and SiS to uptick slightly from July because of back-to-school season. In case SiS does not make a breakthrough this month, the gap between revenues of the two companies will remain the same. Note that performance of both companies is under concern because of rising competition from Intel, ATI Technologies and NVIDIA.
