VIA Technologies announced its August sales results this week. The company said it gained some additional revenues last month compared to the previous month, but its sales were still lower compared to the level achieved in 2002, 2001 and 2000.

VIA’s net sales for August 2003 were $52.49 million, up roughly 4 million or 8.22% from July. The company’s revenues were 7.19% lower than in the same month ended a year ago. The company usually keeps its profitability and margins in secret and does not release such information for general public.

Considering positive claims about July and August sales from both Intel and AMD executives, we can assume that VIA is enjoying growing sales because of rising demand for personal computers and other devices.

The company currently addresses performance-mainstream AMD market with its KT600 core-logic and also offers bunch of its products for cost-effective AMD-based PCs. For the market of Intel’s Socket 478 processors VIA produces its P4X400 as well as PT800 chipsets serving the needs of price-conscious customers.

In case the market is truly rebounding, we may expect VIA to improve its financial performance in future. However, I cannot tell you anything about VIA’s ability to fight back the market share from SiS, Intel and NVIDIA. Let us wait for the actual products…
