VIA Technologies released its sales report for October 2003, proclaiming another sequential and annual decrease in its sales. Looks like the company’s positive revenue increase trend started this September ended last month.

The Taiwanese core-logic designer declared sales of $58.11 million in October 2003, a 3.83% decrease from the previous month and a 22% decrease over the same month last year. The sales of the Number Two chipset company in the world totaled $506.215 million for the ten month ended – that is 18.22% lower compared to the last year’s figure.

The company does not issue any details about its successes or losses to press or analysts immediately after the revenue report, that is why it is very hard to outline the reasons of its gradual declines.

At this point VIA is shipping chipsets for AMD Athlon XP, AMD Athlon 64 and Intel Pentium 4 processors. Additionally, the company promotes its own mini-ITX platforms with embedded VIA processors designed for variety of applications. Moreover, the company has a portfolio of I/O and multimedia controllers.

There is no information about the success of every product line, but based on the number of design wins for VIA’s Pentium 4 and Athlon 64-supporting chipsets for mainboards, I have every reason to believe in VIA’s eventual success. However, the truth now is that VIA continues to suffer from consecutive sales decreases, presumably as a result of its legal problems throughout the previous couple of years.
