The U.S. branch of Universal Abit, a new maker of mainboards formed from the well known Abit Computer, said it would recall certain of its latest enthusiast-class mainboards due to improper installation of cooler, which may have cause overheating of core-logic.

The two mainboards to be recalled at AN9 32x and Fatal1ty AN9 32x based on Nvidia nForce 500-series chipsets with multi-GPU scalable link interface (SLI) technology support. Only the branch of Abit in the U.S. plans a recall, at press time, the company’s web-site in United Kingdom did not issue an appropriate statement, just like the manufacturer’s global web-site.

“After a series of heavy testing programs, our Quality Control test department has found that a small number of units from the early manufacturing of the AN9 32X product line has a hardware issue caused by heatsink component displacement due to accidental rough handling during shipments. This will cause high temperatures and possible overheating,” the company’s announcement reads.

According to Abit, units with the following serial numbers will be recalled:

• Fatal1ty AN9 32x: FAN93UDC000001 ~ FAN93UDC002713
• Fatal1ty AN9 32x: FAN93UDD000001 ~ FAN93UDD001648
• AN9 32x: AN932UDC000001 ~ AN932UDC001407
• AN9 32x: AN932UDD000001 ~ AN932UDD001000

Units with the following serial numbers are certified problem free and will not be recalled:

• Fatal1ty AN9 32x: FAN93UDC002714 ~ FAN93UDC005422
• AN9 32x: AN932UDC001408 ~ AN932UDC002612

The company indicated that shipping costs will be covered in full by Universal Abit and its world-wide branch offices. All affected end-users should return said motherboards to the store, where it was purchased or directly to Abit, then Abit will examine and repair them accordingly if needed.
