All three Taiwanese core-logic developers announced their sales results for January 2003 recently. What is very strange about these companies is that they always announce their financial results very quietly and are usually very laconic with words and sometimes even do not disclose some details that seem to be interesting and important, not even trying to forecast the future.

Well, if they want us to just quote the facts, let us just publish now:

• VIA Technologies announced net sales for January 2003 of $60.77 million approximately, 13.56% more than in December's figure of $53.51 million, but about 15% less than during the same period a year ago.
• According to SiS’ internal estimates, net revenue for January was approximately $52 million, an increase of 42% over the prior month and 49% growth compared to the same period last year.
• ALi said its January 2003 revenue was $11.73 million, 1.5 points up from December 2002, but 11.5% lower compared to January last year.

As we see, SiS continues to solidly improve its results, while VIA and ALi cannot boast with anything of this kind. The former does not have Quad Pumped Bus license and cannot sell a lot of its core-logic products due to this reason, concentrating on shrinking Socket A market and non-core-logic related chips. The latter have all rights to produce Pentium 4 intended chipsets, but it cannot deliver them despite of the fact that it showcased them at Computex in June. As a result of several executional mistakes, both companies have to focus on selling their products that have nothing to do with chipsets for mainboards, such as, DVD/CD-ROMs logic, USB 2.0 controllers, LAN controllers, audio-processors and so on. Given that the competition in these fields is also rather fierce, it is not easy for ALi and VIA to find themselves a lot of customers.

I bet if VIA continues to loose the ground with their Intel Pentium 4 core-logic, SiS will outperform them this year.
