VIA and SiS are Not Sure About November and December Demand

As we reported on Thursday (see this news-story), both VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) had quite successful September results and now they expect that October will also be pretty favourable in terms of sales and profits. The Hsinchu and Taipei based chipset developers also noted that the rise in demand on computer components eventually led to tight chipset supply for both. Nevertheless, core-logic makers are still uncertain for November and December business.

VIA Technologies’ CEO recently said that the demand on VIA products was caused by clone markets in Europe and Asia, while Silicon Integrated Systems indicated that SiS chipsets were mostly bought by OEM clients, including Medion and Hua Ching. Both core-logic developers now predict the climbing deliveries to their customers and try to get more wafers from the fabs in order to fulfil the demand and earn as much as possible in the current situation. Unfortunately, their mainboard clients do not hurry to allocate the chipsets in November due to uncertain long-term market conditions.<%BANNER[article]%>

Yesterday I told you that there would be no Christmas surge in demand (see this news-story) this year. It seems like this is just what mainboards’ and other computer components’ makers think about, hence are very cautious in terms of longer-term business. To sum up, VIA’s and SiS’ apprehension is fully vindicated.
