Serial ATA-150 is already here and all computer hardware enthusiasts are already getting the first HDDs with the new interconnection. Silicon Integrated Systems also do not want to miss the Serial ATA train and today announced its I/O controller with appropriate support.
<%BANNER[article]%>The new SiS964 offers 6 PCI slots, 8 USB 2.0 ports, 2-channel integrated Parallel ATA-33/66/100/133 controller and 2 Serial ATA-150 connectors. Among standard features we should mention 10/100Mb/s Ethernet, Home PNA 2.0, 6-channel audio-solution, MC’97 Modem and AC’97 Audio. In addition, it boasts with FireWire (IEEE1394) support. Moreover, the new SiS964 also provides multi Serial ATA RAID modules, including RAID0, RAID1 and JBOD.
The SiS964 will begin its mass production in the third quarter of 2003, followed by SiS’ chipsets for Intel and AMD platforms. No information about compatibility between the new South Bridge and current North Bridges.
