Having announced the transfer of the Pentium 4 processor family to faster 800MHz bus in Q2 2003, Intel caught third chipset makers unawares, since they surely hadn’t expected a move like that. Among these unlucky guys appeared also VIA, which was forced to update its Pentium 4 chipset plans accordingly as soon as possible.

So, as a result of all these changes on Intel’s roadmap, VIA invented a new P4X400A solution and made a few changes to the names and features two more chipsets, which are now known as PT600 and PT800. Let’s have a closer look at these innovations now:

Speaking about VIA’s plans I would like to point out one more solution they are planning so far. It is the integrated P4M400. The new chipset will be based on P4X400 with the integrated CastleRock-II graphics core. The first chipset samples are scheduled to turn up in Q1 2003.
