Corsair Memory, a renowned supplier of memory modules for enthusiast and overclockers, unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show its new high-speed “Dominator” products aimed at those, who demand extreme performance at any cost. The new Twin2X2048-10000C5DF not only brings extreme out-of-the-box performance, but also has further space for overclocking.

“DDR2 memory performance is at its prime thank to the latest Corsair screening process and our DHX technology. Bringing production-ready PC2-10000 2GB kits to market ahead of the introduction of DDR3 is an exceptional achievement,” commented John Beekley, VP of Applications Engineering at Corsair.

The new Dominator memory modules will be available in 2GB dual-channel kits that are tested to operate at 1250MHz with CL5 5-5-15-2T latency settings and 2.4V voltage. Customers acquiring such modules should ensure that their system components, such as core-logic sets, are capable of clocking memory at such exceptional frequencies.

The new XMS2 Dominator modules feature Corsair’s recently developed dual-path heat eXchange (DHX) radiators that cool down memory chips from the back and from the front, like any conventional heat-spreaders, as well as take the heat away from print-circuit board (PCB), which incorporates some additional elements to remove heat from BGA memory chips. In addition to that, Corsair offers to install Dominator airflow fan that provides extra cooling through airflows.

Overall, the module has four heat sinks, two connected to the memory devices and two connected to the PCB. These heat sinks were designed specifically for the personal computing environment, with fins oriented both in latitudinal and longitudinal orientation to take advantage of air provided by CPU fans as well as case fans.  The result is a module with superior thermal characteristics that will run cooler than a module with stamped or mesh heat spreaders, and thus have greater reliability and over-clocking capability.

Corsair said that when additional fans, which are included with Dominator memory modules, are utilized, the new Twin2X2048-10000C5DF memory modules could “reliably” run at 1320MHz with CL5 timings.

The Twin2X2048-10000C5DF 2GB kits will be available by the end of January through Corsair’s worldwide authorized distributors, retailers, resellers and e-tailers. Pricing is yet unknown, but the modules for extreme enthusiasts are almost certainly not going to be really affordable.
