Asustek Computer unveiled three new models that belong to the family of affordable Eee personal computers at Computex Taipei 2008 trade-show. The novelties are based on Intel Atom microprocessors with some featuring larger displays and hard disk drives, addressing two of the most criticized issues of Asus Eee PCs.

The transition of Eee PC lineup to Intel Atom processors, which were designed for affordable mobile computers, began with substantial upgrade of the whole platform. From now on Asus Eee PC machines powered by Intel Atom N270 (1.60GHz) processors have faster more advanced built-in graphics core, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth technology and considerably enlarged storage size in case of laptops that feature 10” screens.

For the first time, Asustek Computer also incorporated a 5400rpm hard disk drive into Asus Eee PC 1000H, providing 80GB of storage space, which will indisputably be appreciated by those, who use many programs and want to store documents and photos on their Eee PC. However, the model with hard drive and larger screen weighs considerably more compared to other systems from the Eee family.

In addition to more advanced built-in graphics core, Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000 feature Dolby Digital certified audio engine.

The new Eee PCs now come in six custom styles created with the cutting-edge Infusion casing technology. Inlaid within the chassis itself, the motifs are an integral part of the entire cover and will not fade with time. The Infusion surface also provides a new level of resilience – providing scratch resistance and a beautiful style while out and about. Users can choose from Sakura, Sweet Pea, Urban Metropolis, White Peony, Pearl White and Fine Ebony.

“With constant innovations and implementation of the latest technologies in the new Eee PC range, we have since expanded the original 3 ‘Es’ into ‘Easy’, ‘Excellent’ and ‘Exciting’. ‘Easy’ will still encompass the core value of easy to learn, work and play, ‘Excellent’ will highlight the Eee PC’s role as an excellent mobile Internet device and ‘Exciting’ entails utilizing the Eee PC for exciting multimedia enjoyment,” said Jerry Shen, chief executive officer of Asustek Computer.

Asustek Computer has not unveiled pricing details of the new Eee PC machines for the U.S. and Europe, but it is highly likely that the new personal computers will be more expensive compared to predecessors.
