Today VIA announced another integrated DDR chipset. This was VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T (Twister-T DDR) intended for mobile PCs based on Intel CPUs (Pentium III-M, Pentium III, Celeron with 100/133MHz bus and Coppermine/Tualatin core). With its PC2100/PC1600 DDR SDRAM support VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T became the first mobile DDR chipset for notebooks based on Intel processors.
As for the graphics core of Twister-T, this is integrated S3 Graphics ProSavage8, which is to be found in all the other integrated DDR chipsets from VIA (in fact, it is the same old Savage4). The new chipset doesn’t support external graphics cards.
VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T supports dual-channel AC’97 sound, MC’97 modem, AT100 interface, six USB ports and optionally supports 10/100Mbit Ethernet. VIA has also enhanced its mobile product with SpeedStep and LongHaul technologies.
For production purposes VIA makes use of TSMC 0.22-micron capacities. Shipments are already on the way.
