Despite the information from some unofficial sources that Pentium 4 1.8A and 1.6A (both based on 0.13micron Northwood core) will not go into retail (see this news story), both these processors have already been noticed in retail stores. I have already told you about the Pentium 4 1.8A (see this news story). Now it’s the turn of its younger brother with 1.6GHz core clock frequency. This CPU is already selling in this store in its boxed version (Tray versions are expected to appear later).

But the most interesting thing is the price of this CPU: in the above mentioned store Pentium 4 1.6AGHz is selling for $177, i.e. some $4 more than Pentium 4 1.6GHz on the old Willamette core! The cost of Pentium 4 1.8AGHz and 1.8GHz also differs so little: $245 and $242 respectively, though this is not so interesting as the case of Pentium 4 1.6AGHz.<%BANNER[article]%>

This way we have every chance to witness the birthday of some kind of "performance Celeron 1A": a pretty cheap CPU boasting perfect overclockability (potentially 1.5 times higher!).
