We have again to return to our discussion of Plextor that we started on Thursday (see this and this news-stories). Apparently, the company plans to launch their new drives for SCSI interface next year, according to this web-site! In fact, a lot of us doubted that this company will ever again launch a drive for SCSI, however, the source says that a Plextor official told this in his e-mail.

The actual specifications of the new product will appear in December. Unfortunately, now there is no information about this drive at all. Will it be a CD-Writer or another combo-drive? That is what will be interesting to find out!

So far I can hardly remember a lot of mainboards that were launched this year and that support SCSI interface. Furthermore, I doubt that a lot of users really utilise SCSI nowadays since sometimes it is too expensive. Next year we expect Serial-ATA to be widely adopted by the industry and SCSI will become even less attractive for SOHO users due to several reasons that concern pricing and ease of installation.

On the other hand, if Plextor launches a new drive to make use of the mentioned interface, they must be very sure that the drive will find its customers. If they are sure that the market for SCSI CD/DVD drives still exist and there are a lot of those, who use SCSI, there really should be users who still want to make use of this expensive interface. Well, I hope Plextor knows what they try to do.
