ATI Technologies introduced the ES1000, a flexible and stable graphics solution for the server and thin client markets. The new product has been tailored with industry partners, including Intel, who commands the lion’s share of server logic shipments, to satisfy needs of enterprise-class machines.

“Historically, graphics needs for servers were met by using older, legacy desktop or notebook graphics solutions… With the input of major OEMs and platform developers, we have designed the ES1000 from the start to meet the unique requirements of the server environment,” said Rich Heye, Vice President and GM, Desktop Discrete Products, ATI.

The ES1000, a PCI-based graphics chip, is designed for server vendors which require products with low power consumption, strong support, reliability, longevity and low prices. The chip supports a variety of memory and display configurations, making it flexible and suitable for a wide range of server platforms. When integrated into a server, either directly on the mainboard or as an add-in-card, the ES1000 provides stable and reliable display functionality for direct or remote server management.

“Intel and ATI have worked closely to define the graphics requirements needed for next generation servers based on Intel Architecture, and the ES1000 is the culmination of this effort,” said Tom Matson, Director of Marketing for the Enterprise Products and Services Division at Intel.

The ES1000 is currently being qualified by major OEMs for use in current and future server products. It is yet unclear which server makers adopt the ES1000 in short-term, but a major server/workstation platforms developer TYAN has already expressed its approval of ATI ES1000.

 “The next generation of server applications demand higher levels of graphics performance. With the addition of ATI's ES1000 server graphics solution on the Tyan Thunder i7522 (S5362), our server customers will enjoy levels of graphics processing power previously unavailable to them,” said Don Clegg, VP of Marketing and OEM Alliances at TYAN Computer Corporation.

Virtually all servers these days use ATI’s Rage series graphics solutions.
