Post to SlashdotDiamond Multimedia, a supplier of computer components, has issued a statement claiming that recent reports regarding massive amount of defective graphics cards were incorrect and accused a former employee of sending incorrect information to press.
According to Diamond, an angry former employee, who was terminated due to presenting fraudulent credentials, reported the story. The supplier of components fired the employee when this person was unable to solve “a very minor problem” that affected less than 200 cards. This former employee sent the information regarding thousands of faulty graphics cards to inflict harm.
“This is serious business. We hired the man on the strength of his resume and a clean criminal background check. When we dug deeper we found that the person was not who he said he was and promptly terminated him,” said said Bruce Zaman, chief executive of Diamond.
The company said that it had less than 1% failure rate with its graphics cards, whereas the “industry average” was 10%.
“All Diamond video cards carry the Diamond guarantee of quality assurance. Unlike many cards that are simply first to market, Diamond carefully tests and retests every new model for its ratio of performance to reliability,” the statement by the company reads.
Last week it was reported that Diamond supplied up to 15 thousands of graphics cards based on ATI Radeon HD 3800-series processors that were faulty.
