Nvidia Corp. will bundle red-blue 3D glasses with its graphics cards, the company said during Computex Taipei trade-show. The move will help the firm to promote its GeForce 3D Vision technology among inexperienced consumers not wishing to invest into high-end glasses and displays. However, the quality of stereoscopic 3D experience of red-blue glasses is rather low.

Nvidia GeForce 3D Vision technology requires monitor with 120Hz refresh rate, a special transmitter, shutter glasses as well as Nvidia GeForce graphics processing unit. Thanks to special enhancements from the driver, almost any video game can be enhanced with stereoscopic 3D effect, providing more immersive gameplay and entertainment. However, the display, glasses and transmitter cost over $500 and far not every gamer can afford such technology.

Meanwhile, red-blue glasses made of cardboard cost less than a dollar and are compatible with any display. By providing them for free with every graphics card, Nvidia will be able to show off the benefits of fully-fledged GeForce 3D Vision to gamers in budget. It should be noted, however, that red-blue 3D glasses-based experience is very poor and will hardly attract a lot of new customers to Nvidia GeForce in general.

Nvidia did not indicate when exactly its GeForce products are set to get 3D glasses.
