If what you say is true, then products with lifetimes warranties like xfx, would be much worse then products with 3 year warranties like asus.

PNY Technologies Extends Warranties on Graphics Cards
[08/24/2009 11:32 AM]PNY Technologies, a leading supplier of graphics cards and flash memory products, has announced intention to extend warranties on its high-performance XLR8-series graphics cards to lifetime. The decision is likely to improve popularity of graphics cards.
Starting on September 1st, users will now have a standard 1-year out of box warranty, expanded to a lifetime warranty upon registration at PNY.com. The Lifetime Warranty will be available only on the PNY XLR8 GTX series high-end graphics cards including models GTX 295, GTX 285, GTX 275 and GTX 260.
“Consumers who purchase our XLR8 GTX series graphics cards are typically gamers seeking stunning graphics performance. Purchasing a high-end graphics card is definitely an investment and with our new lifetime warranty, we’re giving users the peace of mind to play with confidence,” said Nicholas Mauro, senior marketing manager, PC components for PNY.
Besides PNY, BFG Technologies and EVGA also provide limited lifetime warranty on select graphics boards.
A lifetime warranty is usually a guarantee on the lifetime of the product on the market rather than the lifetime of the consumer, which means that such warranty only lasts for about a year in the best case scenario as suppliers tend to renew their lineups every twelve months. If a product has been discontinued and is no longer available, the warranty may last a limited period longer, however, considering that it is almost impossible to get a GeForce 7 or 8 in the retail these days, the lifetime warranty may be considered a 1 – 1.5 years limited warranty.
